- R. cordifolia is a blood detoxifier, used in skin disorders like hyperpigmentation, scabies, acne and allergies, eye disorders and has anti-inflammatory properties
- R. cordifolia as a promising anti-acne agent because it inhibits the proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes and hence prevents its consequences. Tyrosinase is a key regulatory multifunctional enzyme containing copper that is responsible for the biosynthesis of melanin that determines the colour of the skin. Accumulation of excessive melanin causes various dermatological disorders including melasma and age spots.
Tyrosinase inhibitors are widely used in the cosmetic industry as complexion enhancers. Arbutin and kojic acid are known tyrosinase inhibitors commonly used in cosmetic products for skin whitening. Clinically, these de-pigmenting agents are applied for hyperpigmentation therapy. However, Kojic acid causes dermal sensitization at therapeutic concentration whereas arbutin has potential cytotoxicity.
