In addition to lending Ayurveda’s Varnya, Shothahar, modern research is said to have explored Manjishtha for its pigmentation-reducing action.

In a study it was concluded that the extract of Rubia cordifolia has potential to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme that controls the production of melanin. (Vaibhav S, Lakshaman K. Tyrosinase enzyme inhibitory activity of selected Indian herbs. Int J Res Pharm Biomed Sci. 2012; 3:977–82).

MAHUA (MADHUCA indica) 

Also called Butter Tree or Honey Tree, this tropical tree grows in Central and North Indian forests and all its parts are known to have numerous benefits. The seeds of the tree give out a butter-like liquid that melts on contact with skin.

Mahua is known in Ayurveda to be Madhura or sweet, Kashaya or astringent in Rasa. According to Bhavaprakash Nighantu, Amradiphala Varga, Verse No. 95-97 It is known to pacify vata (Vatapitta Shamaka) and reduce burning sensation (Dahashamaka).

(Sesamum indicum)

Sesame oil is known to be the best oil to enhance the texture and complexion of the skin, improve skin health, promote healing in all types of wounds and strains and pacify Vata dosha.
