BUT NOT ONLY ARE WE CONFIDENT OF OUR PRODUCT QUALITY BUT WE ALSO TREAT YOUR SATISFACTION AS A PRIORITY!
We understand how old habits die hard. Especially the ones that are drilled into us in our childhood or passed down to us by our moms, grandmoms later. Often, we stick to them without giving too much thought to why we follow a certain routine so religiously or end up buying the same old product year after year. It could be pure conditioning or just something we love holding on to.
But some habits need strict unlearning. Especially, the one that involves using petroleum jelly for skincare!
Wonder why? Let’s first understand what petroleum jelly is really made of and how it works.
Petrolatum was first noticed in 1859 by workers operating America’s first oil rigs. They found a substance on the rigs while checking for malfunctions. Thinking that this residue could quicken healing, they started using this paraffin-like substance on regular cuts and burns.
According to an Article (Huffpost), petrolatum or petroleum jelly was
The article further goes on to reveal how the petroleum jelly is not a harmless product and that-
“..People suffering from skin conditions like acne and rosacea should stay away from petroleum jelly altogether, since such thick emollients can aggravate those conditions...”
Humectants- The Resourceful Kind
Moisturisers that are humectants basically slow down the evaporation of water from the skin. How do they do that, you wonder? By drawing water from the deep layers of the skin up to the surface layer that we call skin.
Occlusives- The Moisture Locking Ones
That’s right, these seal in moisture on the skin and stop water from evaporating. Unlike Humectants, these do no attract water, instead they repel it. What’s meant by that? Well, occlusives contain large molecules that coat your skin with a film and form a barrier on the skin and prevent moisture from escaping.
Emollients-The Skin Softeners
These are skin soothers or softeners that help make dry, rough skin feel and look better. When the skin’s surface layer does not contain enough water, it tends to dry out. This makes the skin show flakiness or cracks. When these cracks leave out open spaces between the cells in your skin, emollients help fill out those spaces with lipids or fatty substances while making the skin smoother and softer.
Being just an occlusive, all it does is put a kind of film or plastic wrapping on the skin. And in doing so it also locks in dirt, sweat and bacteria on the skin
Does it Nourish the skin?
× N0
It provides no beauty or wellness benefits whatsoever!
Does it have its own moisturising property?
× NO
No, it just gives the appearance of moisturised skin superficially. That’s right, the petroleum jelly jar you have been swearing by all these years just adds some stickiness to the skin and gives an illusion or appearance of moisturisation.
Common petroleum jelly... operates simply on the basis of blocking exposure – that's it! It has NO ADDED value and no natural herbal ingredients to boost its nutrition profile!
Whereas Varaasa’s natural Punyatam jelly not only does that but also has such powerful nourishing ingredients that they also provide a multitude of benefits to your skin.
David Suzuki Foundation includes petrolatum on its Dirty Dozen list of cosmetic ingredients. Here’s an article that writes-
“A petroleum product, petrolatum can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Studies suggest that exposure to PAHs — including skin contact over extended periods of time — is associated with cancer. On this basis, the European Union classifies petrolatum a carcinogen ii and restricts its use in cosmetics. PAHs in petrolatum can also cause skin irritation and allergies. Iii"
What would you like your hungry skin to feed on? Junk? Or nourishing ingredients?
Just like junk fulfills only your cravings and hunger for a short while and does nothing productive for the body, petroleum jelly only provides a temporary fix for your skin and its benefits do not go beyond the surface of the skin.
How about nourishing the skin with firming and moisturising ingredients with Punyatam Jelly, instead!
This Ayurvedic Ghrita (ghee) has been in use in traditional Ayurveda to manage wounds and non-healing ulcers. The original preparation also contains copper sulphate, but we have avoided using it in our formulation as we are strictly against the usage of heavy metals in our skincare.
Most of the ingredients of this formulation have youth-enhancing, purifying and pacifying benefits.
Jatyadi ghee is boiled with prescribed kasaya (decoctions) and kalkas (herbal pastes) according to an ancient formula.
The Ayurvedic ingredients in this traditional preparation include Turmeric, Indian Barberry, Manjistha, Liquorice and Vetiver that help effectively brighten the skin. Liquorice, Ghee and Bees wax in the formula condition & moisturise the skin. Ayurvedic herbs - Patol, Kutaki, Karanj and Sariva intensely purify and soothe the look of redness and dryness-induced irritation.
Varaasa’s Punyatam Eucalyptus is made with 'Shata-Dhauta-Ghee', which is known to be the mother of ointments and is an excellent choice to improve the appearance of patchy skin and skin irritation.
Shata Dhauta is a process where Ghee is washed 100 times with purified water in copper vessels, following traditional Ayurvedic practices to enhance its moisturising and hydrating properties.
Cow Ghee is whisked with distilled water, while replacing the used water with a fresh lot. This removes ALL its impurities, incorporates water molecules into it and splits the large fat particles into smaller ones. This turns the ghee into an odourless, super soft, creamy emulsion that spreads easily.
Washing Clarified Butter or 'Ghee' purifies it further, making it even softer and more nutritious. Ayurvedic ‘Rasayana’ or Rejuvenator, penetrates deep to nourish and brighten skin and ease the look of wrinkles.
The 100 times Washed Ghee is known to contain almost 3 times the moisture content of normal ghee which means increased hydration, moisturisation, absorption and penetration.
This process of washing the ghee 100 times changes the pH near to neutral which makes it even gentler on the skin and prevents the ghee from turning rancid. It is intensely nourishing, youth-enhancing and loaded with nutrition that makes skin supple and eases the look of aggressive signs of aging.
The procedure multiplies the moisture content, making the use of the ghee used in this Jelly ultra-nourishing.
This is a classical polyherbal Ayurvedic oil that gives your skin the deep-penetrating, gentle care that it needs along with radiance-boosting benefits!
It is prepared using a 5000-year-old method called ‘Taila-Paak-Vidhi' or ‘Oil-Cooking-Method'. Eladi oil is first made laboriously with a multitude of herbs being cooked into it over days of preparation and only then is it added to the formula. This ‘Oil-Cooking-Method' involves whole herbs/relevant parts of the herb to be washed, dried, powdered, pounded into a paste.
That paste is then cooked into the oil for hours manually and then that oil is strained.
The entire process is labor intensive and not only does it make the product superior due to personal attention and human touch, but also provides employment opportunities for masters of this ancient art.
Eladi Oil provides instant radiance and glow, brightens the skin tone, improves skin complexion and texture and has a detoxifying effect. It’s a unique cardamom oil that gives your skin the deep-penetrating gentle care that it needs!
This formulation is not only made of natural oils such as Olive, Sesame, Castor and Coconut but also contains legends of Ayurvedic Mastery – 3 ancient formulae straight from the Ayurvedic texts! Each of these 3 formulae are powerful wonders in themselves and bring their own benefits to the table.

AFFORDABLE LUXURY -
At Varaasa, we do not believe that a natural, quality self-care product should be so expensive that you’re forced to give in to inferior quality products in the long run, simply because natural is more expensive. It hurts even more, when those expensive natural products do nothing more than smell or feel good! Varaasa promises to bring powerful, effective self-care products that are expensive to make, given the quality it offers, and yet make a luxurious experience for you and your loved ones without ripping your pockets!
MOST AFFORDABLE LUXURY- BRAND EXPERIENCE FOR YOU
The quality you’re getting with a Varaasa product is comparable to a luxury brand, in many cases, even better, given the stringent QC practices we follow. However, we believe that because something is 100% natural, pure, authentic and makes a luxurious experience, it should not become unaffordable.
You will find that Varaasa prices are 20-50% less than those brands of comparable quality products. But that’s not all, Varaasa products last a very long time, since less is more at Varaasa.
